What is Thiocodin syrup and what does it do?
Thiocodin in the form of syrup is an over-the-counter medicine use for dry cough. The drug works in two ways: it allows you to get rid of bothersome, unproductive dry cough by reducing the cough reflex. It also helps moisturize the bronchi and produce mucus, and then helps expectorate secretions.

Thiocodin contains two active substances: codeine phosphate hemihydrate and sulfoguaiacol.

Codeine phosphate hemihydrate has an antitussive effect, inhibits the cough reflex, reducing the frequency of coughing attacks.
Sulfogguaiacol has an expectorant effect, facilitating the movement of liquefied secretions in the respiratory tract and its expectoration.
Thiocodin is intend for people over 12 years of age. It is indicate for attacks of dry cough and cough that changes from dry to wet.

Contraindications to use include: hypersensitivity to the drug’s ingredients, asthma or bronchial insufficiency, cystic fibrosis, simultaneous use of other expectorant drugs, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding.

It is recommend to take Thiocodin syrup with meals. It can be taken no more often than every 4-6 hours. Use 1 measure of syrup (i.e. 10 milliliters) 3 times a day.

How to dose Thiocodin syrup?
Use of Thiocodin syrup in adults and children over 12 years of age:

10 ml of syrup (1 scoop) three times a day, no more often than every 4 to 6 hours.
Do not use doses higher than recommended. The medicinal product comes with a measuring cup.

Thiocodin should not be use in children under 12 years of age.

Thiocodin syrup should be taken orally, with meals.

In order to obtain the desired effectiveness of the medicinal product, you should drink an appropriate amount of fluids during the day (at least 2 liters).

When is the use of Thiocodin syrup contraindicated?

You are allergic to codeine phosphate hemihydrate, sulfoguaiacol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
if you have bronchial asthma;
You have respiratory failure (breathing difficulties, e.g. shortness of breath, slower and/or irregular breathing, emphysema);
if you are in a coma;
Have cystic fibrosis (a genetic disease that causes the production of excessively sticky mucus);
Have bronchiectasis (chronic inflammation of the bronchi with symptoms of coughing up a lot of secretions);
if you are addicted to alcohol;
You are addicted to opioids (morphine, heroin);
Under 12 years of age;
You known to metabolise codeine to morphine very rapidly;
if you are pregnant;
if you are breastfeeding;
Coughing up secretions (because this medicine inhibits the cough reflex and excessive secretions may remain in the respiratory tract);
Currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or have used such medicines in the last 14 days.
Notes on use
The medicine contains sucrose (a type of sugar). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

10 ml of syrup contains 6 g of sucrose. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes.

The medicine contains sodium benzoate, which causes minor irritation of the mucous membranes.

The medicine contains propyl parahydroxybenzoate and may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed reactions).
